Monongalia County drowning victim identified

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An Ohio man drowned in Cheat Lake on July 4.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has identified the victim as Thomas Burt, 37, of Martins Ferry, Ohio.

Deputies were called to the Mont Chateau boat ramp at about 1:40 p.m. Monday. The body was recovered a short time later.

The Morgantown City Fire Department, Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Morgantown Dive Team, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and Mon EMS provided assistance at the scene.
