Accused intoxicated driver allegedly found with meth, prescription pills

SANDUSKY – A 54-year-old Cleveland man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies Tuesday night after he allegedly drove intoxicated and was found with meth and prescription pills.

According to a report from the Sandusky Police Department, the incident started when police pulled over a Honda CR-V that had no lights on. The report states that when police spoke with the driver, James Drolet, he was unable to provide a justified reason for having his lights off.

During the conversation, according to the report, police could smell intoxicants from inside the vehicle. As a result, police asked Drolet to step out of the vehicle and when he did, he had an order of intoxicants on him, the report states. When police asked Drolet about the odor, according to the report, he admitted to having a few drinks; however, he did not consent to taking field sobriety tests or a BAC Datamaster Breath test. As a result, Drolet was placed under arrest and charged with OVI.

According to the report, after Drolet was arrested, police searched the vehicle. The report states that in the front seat, police located two tumblers with an intoxicating beverages in them. The passenger had no comment when asked about the tumblers, and he was cited for having an open container in a motor vehicle, the report states. According to the report, when police continued to search the vehicle they found a duffle bag that had several items in it, including methamphetamine and a prescription pill bottle that belonged to Drolet.

Drolet was charged with driving without lights (MM), OVI (M1), possession Of methamphetamine (F5), possession of drug paraphernalia (M4).
