Nearly a year-and-a-half after confirming that a Frasier revival is in the works at Paramount+, Kelsey Grammer has shared an update on the timetable for its premiere.
During a Monday appearance on CBS’ The Talk, Grammer was asked where things stand with actually shooting the Frasier revival, and the five-time Emmy winner said, “There have been some conversations about [starting in] maybe October, maybe a little later.”
He went on to note that he has other projects in queue that may shoot first, “But we’re in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of Frasier, and it looks pretty good,” he said.

Almost exactly a year ago, during an interview with WNBC New York, Grammer said that the revival had reached out to David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin about reprising their respective roles as Niles, Daphne and Roz. (John Mahoney, who played Crane patriarch Martin, died in February 2018. “We deal with that some in the first episode,” Grammer said.)
Pierce, for one, very recently indicated that his involvement is TBD.
“That whole time of my life [doing Frasier] is deeply important to me. And I would never disrespect that in such a way as to say just offhandedly, ‘Oh, no, thanks. I’m not going to do that again.’ It’s too valuable to me,” he told Vulture last month. “But by the same token, because it’s so valuable to me, I also wouldn’t do it just to do it. And I believe it can be done without me, too — finding new stories to tell, in the same way that Frasier did after Cheers.”
Teasing the revival’s premise, Grammer said last summer that the title character — who was first seen in Boston on Cheers, before relocating to Seattle for his spinoff — is “going to change cities again. There are some surprises there.
“He’s like the George Bailey of television,” Grammer quipped. “He thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough his life takes him in another direction — and he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”
You have to figure Fredrick Crain, his Son, is going to be part of the series – although who knows what his personality will be like – Could be like His Father, His Grandfather, His Uncle, or his mother! “Freddy” would be 33 in 2022. (Unless they play with the time-line to make him late 20’s – he did have his Bar Mitzva during the run of the show.)
They need to find the right actor so Grammer can have someone good to play off of as he did David Hyde Pierce and John Mahoney.
Kind of hope they bring him in as a cop….maybe off-screen Freddie and Martin became really close over the years and he inspired him to become a cop and he took on more of Martin’s personality. I’d hope that they would balance Fraiser and Niles’ character with someone like Martin.
Mt husband and I loved Frasier–it was such a class act! It was perfectly written, cast and acted. Every episode was like watching a play. But, I would hate to see it go forward without David Hyde Pierce as Niles.
No Niles and Daphne? No thanks!
No John Mahoney. No thank you.
I am a Frasier true believer, but no Martin and no NIles may leave a little too much Frasier even for me. Now, Niles and Daphne – that sounds fun!
I adored John Mahoney. Frasier without Martin OR Niles. I’d rather re-watch the series yet again.
I completely agree, Taryn.
Yet we first met Frasier without Martin or Niles. Maybe writers can take us on a new ride?
So because one of the actors passed away they shouldn’t even try to do the revival? That seems silly. Something tells me they’ll get David Hyde-Pierce back, especially if they include some tribute to Martin.
If they get David Hyde-Pierce back i would watch. He and Kelsey are wonderful together.
Seriously dude the actor is dead. Get over it.
No Niles, no interest in a revival.
No Niles no father won’t be same what story line could they develop
Agreed! Niles made that show…
I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!
I understand the need for Niles. He and Frasier had great chemistry and that was one of the great drivers of the show.
.
So was Martin, but John Mahoney is dead. I don’t understand punishing the people doing this reboot by not even sampling it because John Mahoney is gone.
I was not a fan of Cheers but loved Frasier. They were totally different shows. And Hyde Pierce has not said no, has he? He’s just adopted a wait-and-see attitude. If the script and storyline is good, he may be back.
I would definitely give it a shot.
I don’t have a problem without Niles in every episode. Who’s life is stagnant for 20+ years?
A new city. Frazier. Well cast Frederick. Appearances by Lilith and Niles on occasion. Some new supporting cast.
That’s all this FRASIER fan wants.
Still eh about this but wait and see.
I am sure the temptation would be to have Frederick move in with Frasier to mirror the show but would be good if it was something a little different if they are going to make Frederick part of it. Maybe they open a practice together so they have the professional/personal disagreements like he had with Lilith then Niles. Or maybe if he is rich now have Frederick embarrassed by his fame so there’s similarity to the Frasier/Martin dynamic.
Hard to bring in Jane without David. You don’t want to write Niles into a bad situation (being dead, separated, hospitalized, ect…) Having Daphne stay for some reason without Niles compresses the timeline and limits the writers. I do think we will see Fredrick as well as the children of Daphne and Niles, all as adults. How substantial a role those characters get could vary season to season, but it is certainly an option. Another big question is whether Frasier is alone, married to Laura Linney’s character, or with someone else. Dating was a big part of the original, but I doubt they want to go there again. Bringing in Peri to play Frasier’s wife (they got together after the show ended,) could be interesting, but I doubt they go there.
This is the stupidest thing I read today. Frasier was the worst part of Frasier. The show is dead in the water without Niles, Daphne and Roz. Sorry Kels but nobody watches the show for you.
This is the same level of misunderstanding about how some comedies work that is levelled at Jerry Seinfeld too. They are the antagonists and often play the more normal character which those around them feed off. This allows the other characters to be more unique and quirky without the show losing touch with it’s viewers. Without Frasier or Jerry you don’t have a show.
Drew, you are correct that many comedies have a straight man to ground the more outlandish characters but on Frasier that was Martin.
Lord, help me. I agree with everyone on here!
Are you listening to yourself. You just flipped from one side to the other in your comment from your earlier comment.
Frazier is the center of Frazier . You are so wrong . Maybe you should join the Yahoo answers where people don’t realize you say one thing one day and something else the next. We cant do Frazier without Frazier but we can do it without you!
No Niles, no watch
Speaking only for myself, Grammer was the least likable member of the cast. I’ll pass.
I have it from a reliable source that he didn’t like you either!
they’ve been hinting at this reboot for a while now. i wont watch it as i didn’t like it i thought it was not funny at all
Smart answer from David Hyde Pierce. His career on both stage and screen is so successful that he can hold out for decent scripts, not just because he “needs work.” I think his involvement will be the real bellwether as to whether the reboot is worthwhile.
People don’t have to knock Kelsey Grammer in order to praise David Hyde Pierce, they were both excellent on this show. Hope to see both of them reunited as well as Roz, Daphne, and Lilith.
I’d rather see a Cheers reunion movie. All the main cast are alive and well and it would be fun to catch up.
Oh please let David Hyde Pierce be a part of the show…He and Kelsey Grammer were gold together. I love the harmony between their acting styles.
I’m currently rewatching “Frasier” from the very first season because I want everything to be fresh in my memory when the reboot is available.
Fraser has been known for its warm hearted comedy. This is what fans are drawn to. I saw a clip of somthing that looked like a drama. The world has gone through enough drama. We need laughter and love. The old frasier fans are hoping for more laughter and love. Sincerely Susan.
No word who will play Eddie!
A beloved character whose actor passed away is impossible to revive through a substitute. Thus Martin would also have to have died. A reboot of Frasier would be meaningless without the original Frasier, Niles, Daphne, and Roz. A venture of this magnitude needs to be done right or not at all. The viewer would want to pick up where they left off as closely as possible. Having to patch in substitutes and imagine possibilities will kill the story.
