President Biden said he and the first lady are “shocked” by the shooting that killed at least six people during the Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois, 25 miles north of Chicago.

Biden spoke to Governor Pritzker and Mayor Rotering. He also had Federal law enforcement assist in the search for the shooter, who remains at large.

Biden said that in addition to signing the gun reform legislation into law, there is “much more” work to do against the epidemic of gun violence.

The suspect on the run is a White man, between 18 to 20-year-old according to the police. He is armed and considered dangerous.

“Members of the community should follow guidance from leadership on the ground, and I will monitor closely as we learn more about those whose lives have been lost and pray for those who are in the hospital with grievous injuries,” said Biden.
