A holiday tradition for Hill City, the Poplar Forest historical retreat held its annual Independence Day celebration Monday afternoon.
Alyson Ramsey, CEO of Poplar Forest, said they've put on this event every July 04 since 1986.
She said the best part is seeing family and friends having a day of fun.
"Just seeing all of the children coming out and enjoying Popular Forest and learning about our history. Seeing the families enjoying a day together," Ramsey said.
Ramsey said the highlight of the day was a Thomas Jefferson interpreter reading the Declaration of Independence.
This celebration gave folks a blast-from-the-past colonial experience. Many stations were set up on the lawn with activities like colonial-time games, music, and demonstrations.
