Iowa driver dies after crashing through front window of home
One man is dead after the car he was driving crashed through the front window of an Iowa residence on Saturday morning, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash was reported east of Webster City on 220th Street and Neely Avenue.
According to the Patrol, 32-year-old Jory Lanken, of Kamrar, failed to stop at a stop sign, entered a ditch and went airborne before going through the front window of a home, located at 2281 220th St.
The house is owned by James and Patty Walker. No one was home at the time of the crash.
The car, a 2006 Pontiac G6, came to rest in the living room.
Lanken was trapped in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.
"I've been in law enforcement for 28 years and I have not seen a crash of this magnitude," said Doug Timmons, Hamilton County Sheriff.
Lanken was well known in the community. Timmons says this crash hits a little to close to home.
"Think about the consequences for everybody, our first responders. It's a tight knit community. Everybody knows everybody," said Timmons. "You go to a car accident, you see who it is and if it's a Hamilton County resident, we all know them."
The Iowa State Patrol and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash.
