A former daycare worker has been charged after she allegedly abused a toddler and filmed it on Snapchat.
Courtney Stickley, 19, of Ogallala, is charged in Perkins County Court with one count of committing negligent child abuse.
According to an arrest affidavit, on June 13, a sergeant with the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office was investigating an assault of a 20-month-old boy that occurred at a daycare in Grant on April 25.
The boy’s mother reported the incident to law enforcement after she was provided with a Snapchat video taken by Stickley that reportedly showed her sweeping the boy’s feet out from behind him, causing him to fall and land on the floor, striking his buttocks, back and head before he cried.
The sergeant says this was believed to be done knowingly and intentionally as the video started recording prior to Stickley sweeping the boy’s legs out from behind him.
The sergeant later interviewed two former employees of the daycare who identified Stickley as the perpetrator based on her attire seen in the Snapchat video. They also stated the video was filmed in the toddler room of the daycare based on the items seen in the background.
On June 24, the sergeant attempted to schedule an interview with Stickley but she claimed “to be too busy to do so for the next two to three weeks.”
The next day, Stickley was stopped in Grant on a reckless driving complaint and arrested for the child abuse charge.
Stickley is scheduled to be arraigned in Perkins County Court at 1 p.m. MDT Wednesday.
