An 81-year-old Lawrence man was found in the water at Lone Star Lake early Monday, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
“Deputies were notified just after 6:30 a.m. Monday that a boater at Lone Star Lake found a man unresponsive in the water,” George Diepenbrock, spokesperson for DGSO, said via email. “The man was brought to shore, and life-saving measures were unsuccessful.”
The man was part of a group that regularly swims at the lake, Diepenbrock said.
“He had broken off from the group to head back to shore and a short time later was found unresponsive in the water,” Diepenbrock said.
Deputies do not suspect foul play.
“The Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to the man’s family and friends,” Diepenbrock said.
DGSO did not immediately release the man’s name Monday morning.
