Monday morning fire wrecks duplex in Desert Hot Springs, displaces five residents

A one-story duplex in Desert Hot Springs was destroyed by a fire early Monday morning, leaving five adults displaced. 

Firefighters responded to the fire, which occurred in the 66000 block of Desert View Avenue southwest of downtown Desert Hot Springs, just after 2:30 a.m. Monday, the Riverside County Fire Department said. No one was hurt.   

The department described the fire as being "fully-involved," which means the fire is so widespread within a structure that firefighters cannot access its interior until water streams have been sufficiently applied. 

The American Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is being investigated, the department said.
