“Lakeville Firefighters respond to East Freetown for a building fire.

The request for mutual aid came in just before 10:30 pm on July 3rd. Lakeville sent Car 1, Engine 1, and the Tanker to the fire.

The fire apparently started in a dumpster outside the structure, then spread into the building. Freetown firefighters made an aggressive attack and were joined soon after by your Lakeville Firefighters.

The early actions of the Freetown Firefighters and the strong work of the mutual aid partners prevented what would have been a large-scale incident.

The building where the fire occurred housed a large industrial occupancy with a heavy fire load. The early knockdown prevented the loss of businesses and employment for numerous people.

Business owners should take away a lesson here. Dumpsters frequently burn; it is important to keep them away from your buildings. A minimum of 10 feet is required.

Happy July 4th everyone!” -Lakeville Fire Department.
