Law enforcement agencies across NC warn of T-shirt selling scams

Multiple law enforcement agencies sent out warnings over the weekend regarding T-shirt selling scams.

The cautions are coming from police departments and cities located across North Carolina. Multiple law enforcement officers warned people are getting text messages from unknown numbers trying to sell T-shirts.

The texts contain a link which take users to a website prompting them to make a purchase.

The Garner Police Department and the Town of Cary both posted a warning on their Facebook pages, along with the Hope Mills Police Department, the Dunn Police Department, the Carteret County Sheriff's Office, the Knightdale Police Department and the Roxboro Police Department.

The Dunn Police Department posted a screenshot of what the texts and website look like.

Chief David Hess with the Roxboro Police Department posted on social media, "It has been brought to our attention that a scammer is soliciting a shirt sale on behalf of the Roxboro Police Department. Please be aware that this is a scam and we would never solicit any kind of sales!"

The Bladen County Sheriff's Office also tweeted it is not selling T-shirts.

A viewer told WRAL News they received an alert from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro advertising $10 T-shirts, which was also believed to be a scam.

There were no additional details about the scams.
