Fayette County deputies said a man faces a charge after a woman reported she paid two people to clean her vehicle and then received a text message that she could get the car back if she paid $1,000.
Nicholas Dean Plumb, 22, of Scarbro was arrested Saturday on a grand larceny charge, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded June 14 to investigate a stolen vehicle complaint. The owner said she paid two people to clean her vehicle, and the car was gone when she went back outside.
Deputies said the owner believed the car had been taken to get it washed, but the car was still gone the next day. The owner reported she received a text message that said she could get her car back if she paid $1,000. If not, the VIN number on the vehicle would be changed.
Plumb was taken into custody and transported to Southern Regional Jail, where he is currently being held on a $10,000 surety/cash bond.
