GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project says it’s concerned about the high number of drowning rescues leading up to Independence Day.
There were 12 total rescues with two in an unknown condition in 2022.
GLSRP also says there have been 47 Great Lake drownings in the year.
20 of those were in Lake Michigan.
Here’s the stats for 2022:
- Lake Michigan = 19 (+1 unknown final outcome)
- Lake Superior = 1
- Lake Huron = 2
- Lake Erie = 12 (+3 unknown final outcomes)
- Lake Ontario = 12
Since 2010, there have been 1,093 drownings in the Great Lakes
