Five days of fun and entertainment at the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Festival, an event that returned after a 14-year absence, wrapped up Monday on July 4 with a performance by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra and fireworks.
The day started with opening remarks and announcements on the Haddad Riverfront Park stage from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a performance by Matt Mullins beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Members of the West Virginia Symphony performed about 7:30 p.m. with fireworks afterward.
At Slack Plaza, Mountain Thyme, the Modock Rounders and FOOTMAD entertained crowds.
Large crowds have turned out so far for the Sternwheel Regatta, which has featured performances by the Four Tops, The Spinners, Martina McBride and Rick Springfield.
Multiple boats and sternwheelers have dotted the Kanawha River during the events, and Kanawha Boulevard has been crowded as people sample food and beer sold by vendors.
Many residents have expressed delight over the return of the celebration that has brought back memories of the festival when it was in its heyday.
