Drought Concerns Return As June Ends Warm and Dry

Spencer, IA (KICD)– Drought concerns are once again on the minds of many following a very dry and also warm month of June for Northwest Iowa.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan tells us picking up less than three inches of rain in June is only making matters worse considering the Spencer area is now more than three and a half inches below normal for the first half of the calendar year.

Glisan says this is maybe a less than ideal time to be dry yet again considering many crops are getting ready to enter the pollination phase.

Looking ahead, it appears as though we will continue this above normal trend for temperatures as we approach the middle of July with a glimmer of hope also showing up on the outlooks indicating some possible rainfall for the area.
