SAPD: Driver was doing doughnuts at nearby intersection moments before crash

SAN ANTONIO – One person was killed and another person was charged after a rollover crash in a North Side neighborhood overnight, according to San Antonio police.

The Chevrolet S-10 they were traveling in crashed just before 1:45 a.m. Monday at West Woodlawn Avenue and Aganier Avenue, not far from Blanco Road.

Moments before the wreck, the 20-year-old driver of the truck was “driving recklessly” and doing doughnuts at the intersection of the Interstate 10 access road and Woodlawn, according to a preliminary report from SAPD.

The driver then continued on Woodlawn, passed a vehicle at a high rate of speed, and lost control, police said.

The truck hit an embankment in the front yard of the home and rolled over multiple times.

One of the passengers, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger, 31, were taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

The driver, who has not been identified, was charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault, police said. He was booked by proxy as he remains in the hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
