Chicago police said more than 50 people have been shot over the holiday weekend, including a 10-year-old boy.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 10-year-old boy was wounded inside of his bedroom after shots fired from outside entered his Englewood home, Chicago police said.

The boy was in his bedroom in the 600-block of West Englewood Avenue at about 10:40 p.m. when police said he suddenly felt pain and ran to an adult.

Investigators said that several bullets entered through the siding of the house, injuring the boy.

54 shot, 7 killed in 4th of July weekend violence

"It's as if no matter what you do, something is going to happen and something is going to happen to a child," Street Pastor Donovan Price.

Price said sadly his team expects the violence is not over yet.

"I hate to say we wait for it or we expect it," he said. "Fourth of July weekend has proven itself to be what it's going to be. The numbers aren't what last year were. However, that is not a sign that's it's getting better. That's just the ebb and flow of violence."

No one is in custody and Area One detective are investigating.
