Who Remembers Go Victoria Day at the Astrodome

If you drive by the Houston Astrodome today, it looks like an abandoned building that is on its last legs. However, the Houston Astrodome was deemed the “Eighth Wonder of the World” when it first opened in 1965, and for good reason. At the time, Astro-turf was state of the art and the Dome was the FIRST indoor, air-conditioned stadium.  I love to write about Houston Nostalgia just as much as Victoria Nostalgia.

One day out of every year was dedicated to us here in that little city of Victoria.  Go Victoria Day turned into a yearly trip for my dad and me. it was awesome. I still remember walking into the Astrodome for the first time. Every time that we went we sat in the Mezzanine Section. It's was awesome to see the early days of Craig Biggio and getting to see Mike Scott pitch. I remember one of the games where the Montreal Expos, Andres Gallaraga, sent one to the upper deck in left field. What an incredible sight that was. On October 9, 1999, the Houston Astros played their last official game inside the Astrodome. Hard to believe that it has been almost 22 years to date.  What memories do you have of the Astrodome? Not only do we miss the Astrodome, but we also miss Astroworld and Waterworld too.  This was the perfect way to close out an Afternoon. Rides like the Bamboo shoots, XLR-8, 'The Ultra Twister' as well as the Texas Cyclone are what introduced me to my love of thrill rides.
