Montgomery police are conducting homicide investigations into two separate fatal shootings that occurred Sunday.

The victims are Rufus McCants, 67, and Deagan Miller, 21, both of Montgomery, according to news releases from the Montgomery Police Department.

Police and fire medics responded to the 1300 block of North Ripley Street shortly before noon Sunday in reference to a shooting. There, police found McCants had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound, and he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, MPD said. The shooting occurred at another location which is still being determined by police.

Police responded to the second shooting in the 6100 block of Boardwalk Boulevard at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday. Police say Miller sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was  pronounced dead on the scene.

The circumstances surrounding both shootings remain under investigation and no further information is available, MPD said.
