GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Goose Creek police said their 911 dispatch center is getting inundated with calls related to July 4th fireworks and is reminding residents that setting off fireworks within city limits is illegal on certain holidays.
“In addition, if you choose to use fireworks on the 4th of July and your projectiles land on your neighbor’s property, you are also in violation of a city ordinance,” the Goose Creek Police Department posted to Facebook.
Goose Creek police ask residents to enjoy the 3-day holiday responsibly.
As a reminder, the two city ordinances are as follows:
§ 91.46 PROHIBITION ON USE OF FIREWORKS.
It shall be unlawful for any person to fire, shoot or discharge any fireworks of any description within the city, except on Independence Day (July 4), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and as otherwise provided in this chapter.
§ 91.55 UNLAWFUL TRESPASS BY PROJECTILE.
It shall be unlawful for any person to cause any projectile to land upon or go over the property of another without the permission of that property owner. PROJECTILE shall include, but is not limited to, any fireworks, arrow, bullet or rocket. A person shall be guilty of this offense even if there is no intent to cause a projectile to land upon or go over the property of another. The general penalty clause of the Code of Goose Creek, South Carolina, shall be applicable to this section.
