The Pittsburgh Steelers are known for their love and patience towards their players over the years. This is a franchise that, over the years, has had players get suspended and fined thousands but is willing to give a second chance to their players. The 2019 draft was undoubtedly one to remember, however.

Defensive linebacker Devin Bush was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 10th selection they received from the Denver Broncos. Denver acquired Pittsburgh’s 2019 first- and second-round selections (Nos. 20 and 52) as well as a 2020 third-round pick in exchange for the 10th pick. The key reason for the trade was the spinal injury to former Steeler linebacker Ryan Shazier that ended his career. But what has happened since?

Injuries

Well, Devin Bush just hasn’t done enough since his rookie year. He put up 109 total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. To add on, Bush played 16 games. In 2020, he only played five games after injuring his ACL. In 2021, fans saw a few glimpses of the 2019 version of Devin Bush, but the Steelers didn’t get the same production they would’ve hoped from the former Wolverine. The Steelers have since declined to pick up Devin Bush’s fifth-year option, which would make him a free agent after this season.

With that being said, the Steelers have added linebacker Myles Jack during free agency in March. They also have Robert Spillane, who’s improved over the last two seasons with the Steelers. There is also a chance that second-year linebacker Buddy Johnson out of Texas A&M can also carve out a more prominent role with the team. At this point, it’s now or never for Devin Bush.
