Free food, games, entertainment from 10-2
Platte City’s downtown July 4th Celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 4. The event will run until 2 p.m.
KC Wolf, mascot for the Kansas City Chiefs, will help get things rolling with an appearance on Main Street. KC Wolf will be on hand from 10 a.m. till noon.
A shuttle service will offer rides to/from the Platte County High School main entrance and Main Street. The shuttle service begins at 9:30 a.m. and will run until 2:30 p.m.
Entertainment performances will take place in front of the Platte County Courthouse beginning at 10 a.m. Exhibits and booths will line Main Street from Third to Fourth Streets. There will be yard games, face painting, a bounce house, a mega obstacle course, caricatures, balloon artistry, a dunk tank, free popsicles, free water and much more.
Come hungry. The City of Platte City is picking up the tab on lunch items from food trucks that will include Big Daddy and Sons BBQ, Jadabay’s Tasty Kitchen, Highway 92 Food Service, La Cabana Mexican Restaurant (outdoors in front of their restaurant), and a hot dog stand operated by the Boy Scouts.
Free entertainment in front of the courthouse will include:
10 a.m.: Harper Haus Music Company.
10:30 a.m.: The Good Sam Club Band.
12:30 p.m.: Harper Haus Music Company.
1 p.m.: Beatniks Dance and Tumble
1:30 p.m.: Pirates Cheerleading Club.
At the free dunk tank, throwers of all ages will get the opportunity to send the following folks for a swim:
10:30-11 a.m.: Platte City Mayor Tony Paolillo.
11 to 11:30 a.m.: Patty Farr of RE/MAX House of Dreams.
11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Ivan Foley of The Landmark Newspaper.
12 to 12:30 p.m.: Robert Mueller, assistant principal at Platte City Middle School.
12:30 to 1 p.m: Keith Jones, principal at Platte County High School.
1 to 1:30 p.m.: Michael Powers, assistant principal at Siegrist Elementary School.
1:30 to 2 p.m.: Phillip O’Reilly, pastor at the Rock of KC.
FIREWORKS
Long after the daytime fun, the city’s fireworks show will begin at 10 p.m. The fireworks display will take place at the campus of Platte County R-3 School District along Hwy. 92. There will be no stadium seating available, however, due to ongoing construction at the school.
There are many optional viewing locations. Some of the closer, more popular viewing spots might be Hillcrest Thrift Shop, Platte Valley Park, the Mid-Continent Library parking lot, the YMCA parking lot, Price Chopper, Platte County High School parking area, Platte City Middle School parking areas, as well as parking lots at Siegrist Elementary School and Compass Elementary School.
The Edlin Team, a realty office at 2000 Kentucky Avenue, is hosting a community watch party on its lawn. That event starts at 7 p.m. and runs until the fireworks end.
