What began as a structure fire just south of Florence has spread approximately 180 acres as of Sunday evening. Texas A&M Forest Service said the fire, called the DPS fire, was 10% contained just after 8 p.m.
Williamson County Emergency Communications was told about the structure fire off Pecan Branch Road around 2:30 p.m.
Fire departments from Florence, Jarrell, Georgetown, Round Rock, Salado and Bartlett are responding, as well as the Texas Forest Service, Department of Public Safety, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and Emergency Management.
Around 6:45 p.m., the Department of Public Safety was alerted that the fire had reached the fence line of the training facility nearby.
County officials ask that the public not fly drones in the area, as it interferes with helicopter activity as crews fight the fire.
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
