ABC NEWS, NEW YORK. AND TONIGHT A MADISON ARTIST SAYS HER WORK WAS RUINED AFTER A FAMILY PAINTED OVER IT. WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED HERE. LATER G SAYS SHE HAD HER WORK ON DISPLAY AT THE MADISON MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART LAST MONTH AND MUSEUM OFFICIALS. SAY A WOMAN AND TWO KIDS. THOUGHT THE EXHIBIT WAS INTERACTIVE. SO THEY COVERED PART OF THE PIECE WITH PAINT AND GLITTER AND THAT’S NOT ALL. SHE WANTS TO KNOW CAN THEY TAKE HOME THE CANVASES THAT THEY PAINTED? GIVE ME THIS. A Madison artist says her work was ruined after a family painted over it.Lilada Gee had her work on display at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art last month.Museum officials said a woman and two kids thought the exhibit was interactive, so they covered part of the piece with paint and glitter.And that's not all. The woman asked if they could take home the canvases they painted. Officials said the family walked off with some of the canvasses before a worker got them back.The artist is furious her work was not protected."We wanted to get Black women out there because we are historically unrepresented in these spaces," Gee said.Gee questions whether she will ever present work at that museum again.
