Senator Scott Wilk Condemns No Suspension Of State Gas Tax

This weekend, Senator Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) condemned the actions of legislative Democrats for refusing to suspend the state gas tax as shortly after the decision the tax increased by 5.6 percent.

“I hope you filled up your tank yesterday for the 4th of July weekend, because as of today, your price at the pump went up. Legislative Democrats, through their inaction, let an increase to gas taxes go into effect today,” Wilk said. “While millions of Californians struggle to budget for higher fuel costs, the Democrat majority sat back and watched gas taxes increase.”

Senator Brian W. Jones (R-Santee) gave Senate Democrats another chance to consider gas price relief with an amendment to fund a gas tax holiday. The amendment was ignored and California drivers are paying an average of  $6.26 for a gallon for gas, nearly two dollars more than the national average.

“There is an addiction to spending in Sacramento,” Wilk said. “If a multi-billion dollar budget surplus doesn’t inspire Democrats to give taxpayers a break, it’s pretty obvious spending won’t be controlled without an intervention.”

Wilk’s team has put together a full account of instances where California Democrats have refused or ignored gas tax relief.
