Larry Tavlarides, from the conservative nonprofit group Americans for Prosperity-Pennsylvania, holds a sign for gas tickets at BP in Lower Burrell on June 22. The gas station offered substantially discounted gas from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., courtesy of the Americans for Prosperity group, who staged the event to show how high gas prices were affecting people. There will be a similar event Monday in Monroeville.

A Monroeville gas station will be the hottest spot in town on Monday, at least from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m, when it lowers gas prices to $2.38 per gallon for regular unleaded.

The Sunoco station along Haymaker Road will offer the deep discount through a program with the Americans for Prosperity in Pennsylvania (AFP-PA), according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

The group offered a similar event on June 22 in Lower Burrell and cars lined up three hours early in a nearby shopping center waiting for their turn to be directed to the BP at Leechburg and Wildlife Lodge roads.

The low gas price of $2.38 was the national average in 2021, according to AFP-PA, a conservative nonprofit staging the events to show how high gas prices and inflation are impacting people.

The group absorbs the difference in the cost of the gas, which is offered to the first 150 cars in line.
