GEBREGIORGIS, WESH 2 NEWS. LUANA: THANKS FOR THE UPDATE. MEANWHILE, A MAN IS IN THE HOSPITAL RECOVERING FROM A SHARK BITE. THIS HAPPENED IN NEW SMYRNA BEACH. WESH 2’S CLAIRE METZ REPORTS THIS HAPPENED JUST BEFORE NOON. HE WAS BITTEN ON THE FOOT. THE INJURY IS CONSIDERED MINOR. HE HAD A FRIEND TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREARMENT. THIS MARKS THE THIRD BITE OF THE YEAR IN VOLUSIA COUNTY. THERE WERE TWO BITES BACK

Shark bites man's foot at New Smyrna Beach, officials say
On Sunday afternoon, a shark bit a man at a beach in Volusia County. Volusia County Beach Safety officials say the man was bitten on the foot just before 12 p.m. at New Smyrna Beach. A 28-year-old Daytona Beach man fell off of his surfboard as he was surfing next to New Smyrna Jetty, beach officials say. Then, he was bitten on his left foot. He suffered a minor injury and his friend drove him to the hospital. This is the third shark bite of the year in Volusia County. There were two shark bites in March. Volusia County Beach Safety also says they rescued 38 people out of the ocean Sunday.
