BROOKFIELD — The Madison County Fair will be back again this year from Thursday, July 7, to Sunday, July 10, at 1968 Fairground Road in Brookfield.
Fair classics like tractor pulls, fried food, and amusement rides are sure to entertain throughout the weekend. At $2 per admission ticket for attendants above the age of three, Madison County Fair Publicist Annette Tanney said that there’s loads of affordable, family fun to be had by all. “There’s a lot of things happening and free things going on, things to see,” she said. “We anticipate having a lot more vendors on the ground this year.” Many components of the fair are educational too, she added.
On Thursday, guests can get in for free when they bring a non-perishable food item for donation. On Friday, senior citizens get in for free, and later at 3 p.m. there will be senior citizen prize drawings.
Animals will be at the forefront for many of the weekend’s activities. The Wild World of Animals will host free events daily, and there will be livestock shows featuring sheep, dairy cows, goats, and horses. In addition, 4-H will be hosting Barnyard Olympics featuring a calf water-bucket race and other activities. Chicken and rabbit shows will not take place due to timing and fear of illness spread among them, Tanney explained.
Grandstand events this year include:
Stock car racing, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Garden tractor pull, Friday, 10 a.m.
Hot tractor pull, Friday, 7 p.m.
Demolition Derby, Saturday, 1 p.m.
Gas and diesel truck pull, Saturday, 7 p.m.
Tractor pull, Sunday, 9:30 a.m.
Admission to these events for adults is $10, for ages 3-10 is $5, and those below three get in free.
Cirque Adventure, a high flying acrobatic circus, will perform daily Friday-Sunday, free with admission. Buffalo Barfield will be playing music throughout the fair’s duration. Other free activities include:
Talent Show, Saturday, 11 a.m.
Miss and Mister Madison County Pageant (ages 0-25), Sunday, 11 a.m.
Admission opens on Thursday at 11 a.m., and Friday-Sunday at 8 a.m. “As far as closing time, it’s when everybody goes home,” Tanney joked. But generally, the fair closes by 11 p.m., she said. The Midway opens at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Last year, the Madison County Fair was organized in only a month’s time, due to COVID-19. “Last year we had a wonderful fair, which we were really surprised,” Tanney reflected. “We drew a really good crowd. We were really surprised because of COVID. And, well, this year, we’re hoping we can do the same or more.”
Free parking is provided. Fair proceeds cover overhead and support future fairs. The fair is organized by a nonprofit run by the Madison County Agricultural Society.
