GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Many people are planning to be in downtown Green Bay to celebrate Independence Day on Monday. But the weather forecasted, isn’t looking the best for outdoor fun.
Fire over the Fox is making full scaled comeback this year for the 4th of July holiday.
Allie Thut is the director of special events for On Broadway, Inc.
She says they’re excited to be back in full force.
“We have a bunch of stages,” said Thut. “Then we’ll have a bunch of food vendors, we have some inflatables coming and then we have the Waterboard Warrior show happening.”
The 4th of July holiday event was cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic. In 2021, it went on, but with restrictions.
But there is some concern for this year’s event. There’s a chance of storms in the forecast for Monday.
Ben Luedke is from Little Suamico. He says he and his family plan to go rain or shine.
“It doesn’t really bother us if it’s raining or not,” said Luedke. “We have umbrellas and the kids care even less than we do.”
Green Bay resident Eric Giffin says he’ll possibly take the chance, since it’s been two years since a typical Fire over the Fox.
“I worked at a golf course for 14 years and a lot of times in the summer, it rains for like 20 minutes and it’s good for the rest of the day,” said Giffin. “Maybe we’ll wing it.”
Thut says as of Saturday, it’s still too early to assess if the event should be postponed because of the predicted weather.
“If we have to cancel for some reason, we do have a rain day of Tuesday to still light off those fireworks,” said Thut.
She adds if that were to happen, it would only be a fireworks show and not a full event like planned for Monday.
“If it’s just rain, we might still be able to move forward with the event, it’s just if there’s more severe weather,” said Thut. “That would be tough.”
If all goes as expected, the event kicks off at 3 p.m., with fireworks to fill the sky at approximately 9:45 p.m.
