COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to an incident near the corner of Landis Court and N 19th Street around 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officers say they were first called on a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1800 block of Landis Ct. CSPD said initially, the woman calling told police she was assaulted and her life was threatened by an armed man in the house. When officers arrived they said a distraught woman was in the front yard and they could see a man walk into the home.

During the investigation, officers were told that the man had threatened to kill the woman and then kill himself when officers arrived. CSPD determined there was probable cause to arrest the man for felony domestic violence-related charges, including menacing.

Officers said their attempts to contact the man inside the house went unanswered, so the Tactical Enforcement Unit was called out to the scene. The man had barricaded himself inside the home and was not responding to officers commands. CSPD advised neighbors nearby to stay inside their homes and away from windows. Officers also asked community members to avoid the area.

Around 1:30 p.m., after the TEU said all forms of attempts to contact the man were exhausted, their team went inside the home and found the man unresponsive. Medical personnel then entered the home and determined the man had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The name of the man has not yet been released.
