NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – After their season opening win over Summit Academy (49-0), New Castle failed to post a victory in each of their final nine games.

With the rich tradition of Red Hurricane football, better days are ahead.

In his second season at the helm of New Castle football, coach Stacy Robinson expects to see improvement in all facets of the game.

“Last year, many issues and obstacles presented themselves that contributed to our challenging year,” Robinson said. “I hope that with a young and inexperienced team, we can adjust to the ups and downs that [this] season presents, in a more positive manner. We must stay healthy and develop confidence as a team. That, in turn, will allow us to perform to the best of our ability, which hopefully will lead to [reaching] the post-season.”

From an offensive standpoint, many key pieces return including their All-Parkway selection at running back (and linebacker) in senior playmaker Malik Jefferson as well as junior quarterback Kyrell Harris.

“Malik will be one of our leaders,” Robinson stated. “He’ll play multiple positions on offense. Kyrell has the edge so far at quarterback and is expected to become the leader that he’s capable of.”

Junior running back Kaevon Gardner is back after having his season cut short due to an injury. Other offensive weapons will include Nate McKnight, JT Warren, Maddox Thompson, Chase Lemmon, Maddix Perkins and Carlao Lowe.

The offensive line will be anchored by Jaden Shaffer, Jaden Kirkwood, Elias Lawson and Marcos Diaz.

Many of the same names that the Red Hurricanes are counting on to contribute on offense are also looked at as potential contributors on the other side of the ball.

Along the defensive front, New Castle will feature Lawson, Diaz, Lowe and Dylan Carter. The linebackers will be Jefferson and Kirkwood. In the secondary, the group will feature Harris, McKnight, Thompson, Gardner and Perkins.

New Castle begins the new season at Summit Academy on Saturday, August 26.
