WITHIN DAYS. NEW THIS MORNING MARSHALLTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT SPENT LAST NIGHT BATTLING A GARAGE FIRE HAPPENED AROUND 11PM NEAR THE INTERSECTION. OF NORTH 4TH AVENUE AND SWAYZE STREET, WHEN FIRE CREWS ARRIVED SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE ROOF OF THE GARAGE EVERYONE MADE IT OUT SAFELY. THE HOMEOWNER SAYS HE USED THE PELLET GRILL. EARLIER IN THE DAY AND THOUGHT HE LET IT COOL DOWN ENOUGH BEFORE PLACING IT BACK IN THE GARAGE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED DAMAGES A

Marshalltown Fire Department battles garage fire on Saturday night
The Marshalltown Fire Department spent Saturday night battling a garage fire. It happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of North 4th Avenue and Swayze Street. A passerby noticed smoke coming from the garage and notified the homeowner. Everyone made it out safely.The homeowner says he used a pellet grill earlier in the day and thought he let it cool down enough before placing it back in the garage.  Damages are estimated at $5,000.

The Marshalltown Fire Department spent Saturday night battling a garage fire.

It happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of North 4th Avenue and Swayze Street.

A passerby noticed smoke coming from the garage and notified the homeowner.

Everyone made it out safely.

The homeowner says he used a pellet grill earlier in the day and thought he let it cool down enough before placing it back in the garage.  

Damages are estimated at $5,000.
