The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has deactivated its emergency operations center. The center coordinated agencies responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in Akwesasne. It is no longer needed because the pandemic is no longer a significant health and safety threat in the territory, according to a statement from tribal officials.

The center was activated in March 2020. Authorities say the Tribe’s Health Services will continue to monitor the virus. If there are significant developments, like the emergence of a new highly-transmissible variant, the center may be re-activated.
