Swimmer missing after failing to resurface in Southwest Michigan lake

UPDATE: At 3:23 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, Richard Bryan Card was located by emergency responders in 26 feet of water in Little Pine Lake.

HASTINGS, MI – A 37-year-old man is believed to have drowned early Sunday after he did not resurface in a Southwest Michigan lake.

The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, July 3, at Little Pine Lake in Hope Township, about 6 miles south of Hastings.

Around that time, Barry County sheriff’s deputies say the man was swimming from a paddleboat when he went underwater and did not resurface.

Deputies say the man is believed to have drowned. A search for him remains ongoing with the assistance of Great Lakes Drone, Great Lakes Search and Rescue and the Kalamazoo County Dive Team.
