WHITMORE LAKE, MI -- Hundreds of people flooded to Northfield Community Park on Saturday to watch the annual fireworks celebration over Whitmore Lake.

Alongside vendors selling toy lightsabers and other light-up toys were food trucks and local restaurant stands blocking off multiple blocks for the popular celebration on July 2.

“I used to bring my son when he was a young child, and now I’m bringing my grandchildren,” said Ann Arbor resident Awni Abukaff, who has been attending the Whitmore Lake fireworks for more than 25 years, adding that Whitmore Lake is “a nice, quiet family place with good neighbors.”

Visitors were encouraged over a loudspeaker to check out local wares and participate in impromptu dance classes until dusk when the fireworks began.
