'I did that, I did it.': 911 calls released after fatal domestic dispute in Fayetteville

Panic and confusion defined the last moments of Marshall Eugene Parks Jr.'s life, according to 911 call recordings released in the case this week.

Parks, 32, was shot in his home in the 800 block of Danish Drive on June 19, according to a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department. Police said a domestic disturbance preceded the Father's Day shooting. He was pronounced dead at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. 

The first of two calls to 911 came in at 11:38 a.m.

"I need somebody at ... Danish Drive, emergency. My boyfriend was shot," a woman said. Police have not released her name and it was redacted from the recording. As of Friday, it appears no charges had been filed in the case. Attempts to contact the Fayetteville Police Department were unsuccessful. 

The dispatcher asks where on his body the victim was shot.

"I don't know, I can't see. I cannot tell. But I need y’all to come. He got blood coming out of his face...," the girlfriend said. Then, presumably to Parks, she said, "You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine."

According to a second caller, the scene was unfolding in the driveway of the couple's home. Several other voices, possibly bystanders, are heard in the background of the girlfriend's call. At one point, a man is heard asking, "Who shot him?"

"I did it. We were getting into a fight, and I did that. I did it," the girlfriend replied.

The dispatcher seemed surprised by the declaration, and asked, "You're the one that shot him?"

"Yes, I did," the girlfriend said. "We were getting into a fight. Please, please have somebody come, please."

"Ma'am, where’s the gun right now?: the dispatcher asked. 

"Hurry up. It's in the house, it's in the house. Please have somebody hurry," the girlfriend replied. 

When the dispatcher repeatedly tried to get the girlfriend to find a cloth to apply pressure to the wound, the caller seemed confused by the request and repeated she didn't know where the wound was. Another background voice, this time from a woman, is heard asking the girlfriend what happened. 

"What did he do, fall?" the second woman said.

The girlfriend replied they were fighting and she shot him. 

"You shot him? With what?" the woman asked. 

"With a gun," the girlfriend said. 

The second woman pauses for a beat and then said solemnly, "You know you got a problem?"

At one point the girlfriend exclaimed, "Oh my gosh. I just, I never thought that this would happen."

Someone else at the scene then appeared to take over the phone. Five minutes and 51 seconds into the 911 call, that person noted police had arrived. 

In the background, the girlfriend can be heard explaining what happened. 

"We got in a fist fight. He put his hands around my neck and he knew that I had the gun and he still came, he came and lunged for me," she said. 

According to a search warrant in the case, investigators seized a black and pink .22 caliber handgun, an exterior security camera, an interior security camera, two shell casings, and two live .22 caliber rounds from the home.
