SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE- Two teens have been charged in connection with the shooting that started on Barnard Street Saturday.

Officers responded to Barnard Street around 11:50 p.m.

Upon arrival they discovered two teenagers suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police say the teens ages 15 and 16 had been involved in an argument before the shooting.

Both teens withdrew guns and were shooting, according to officials.

The 16-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The 15-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Original Story- This holiday weekend, Savannah Police are investigating a shooting on Barnard Street near Ellis Square.

Two teenage boys were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries in what is the latest in a string of shootings in the area.

“I’m not shocked and that’s what shocks me, is that this is just something that’s normal. And it shouldn’t be normal. Every weekend,” Maggie Errickson, Savannah Resident said.

Maggie Errickson works near Barnard street, where this latest shooting happened. She wasn’t working at the time of the shooting, because-

“I choose not to work downtown anymore just because of safety reasons. I prefer not to deal with all the shootings that are happening,” Errickson said.

Errickson says not working nights cuts into her tips. And for those that still go out into downtown, the shootings are getting harder to ignore.

It is kind of annoying that people can’t just go out and have a good time, but it being a highly congested area I do think things need to be fixed. Because it’s very dangerous to others, tourists, things like that,” Javan Carboney said.

In a press conference last Tuesday, Savannah mayor Van Johnson floated the idea of imposing a curfew to help curb potential shootings downtown, though nothing is in place at this time.
