July 3, 1972 – LAKE LEVEL BACK TO 2062.5
Lake Pend Oreille was at elevation 2062.5 ft. above sea level Monday and now will average 2062.3. This year’s maximum elevation was 2065.7 on June 11. The lake began to recede steadily three days later.

DRILL TEAM SET FOR BIG PARADE
The past few weeks, the SHS Ponderettes Drill Team has practiced early each morning at the city beach, rehearsing for the annual July 4 parade. Led by Captain Leslie Nelson, the 36 marchers will entertain the crowd with new, snappy dance steps. Costumes accented by the “Wizard of Oz” theme will be featured. The traditional white uniform with pink and orange puff sleeves will be adorned by a multi-print apron and the girls will also wear matching tassles (sic) and ribbons.

KIWANIS CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS
Sandpoint Kiwanis club elected officers for the 1972-73 club year Monday. Clarence Reed will be president; Lee Budell, first vice president; and Tom Robideaux, second vice president. New directors are Bob Steffens, Frank Chapin, Norman Rosenberger, Art Ruyle and Don Dundon. The three holdover directors are Jim Reed, Bert Leonard and Raynold Davis.

RECEPTION HONORS VICAR
St. Agnes Episcopal Church members will welcome their new vicar, the Rev. Nolan Redman, and Mrs. Redman at a reception in the parish hall Saturday.

July 3, 1922 – OFFICIAL JULY 4 PROGRAM
10:30 a.m. – The biggest and prettiest parade ever in this City, with 45 Floats, and prizes totaling $100. Immediately after the Parade – Official opening of the grounds, with Races Games and Sports of every kind and $200 in prizes. The Huge Carnival will open with shows and attractions furnished by home talent.
2:00 p.m. – At the Ball Park, the first game will make you laugh so hard you will be unable to see the main event with Sandpoint as the Trimmers. Music included.
4:00 p.m. – A Band Concert on the School Lawn.
8:00 p.m. – A Mardi-Gras with so many costumes you will think the circuses have “canned” their clowns. Watch your step here.
8:30 p.m. – Dancing at the Liberty Theater continues from then on. Gem Theater runs shows continuously.
11:00 p.m. – The Grand $250 Fire Works Display.

MUCH SCHOOL BUILDING THIS YEAR
Sandpoint is but one of a number of districts in Bonner county wherein new school houses will be erected this year. While this city with its $140,000 building will naturally lap over all the other projects, yet Clarksfork with its $25,000 building will have just as pretentious a school house according to the size of the village; while the Italian district (Priest River) with its new $10,000 building is really putting it over all the others when it is considered that that is but a rural district. Morton and Newport No. 12 are also building this year, while additions are being made to the Pack River and Selle school houses.
