Lightning strike in Sandy Hook
August 9, 1962 — During last Saturday night’s electric and rain storm, lightning struck the barn of Lewis Judd in the Sandy Hook neighborhood north of Luray. The building was completely destroyed by the resulting fire. Two brood sows that were quartered in the barn were killed by the bolt. The barn had been filled with hay on Saturday morning and this was also lost.

Page County’s unemployment steady at 3% for June; 336 more employed compared to May
LURAY — The Virginia Employment Commission recently released June 2022 Local Area Unemployment Rates, which show Page County’s jobless claims remained steady in June after a slight increase in May. Unemployment was fairly flat in month-to-month comparisons across the region and across the commonwealth from May to June. The City of Harrisonburg saw the largest increase in the area at only two-tenths of a percent.
