The Chattanooga Health Advocacy team organized this silent vigil in protest of the overturn of Roe v. Wade and Casey v Planned Parenthood.
"We are putting on a silent vigil to mourn the loss of our reproductive freedoms and the work that went into having a Roe come into play in the first place." Hardaway says
Organizer Shannon Hardaway says Saturday's event doesn't just cover abortion rights.
This is about our rights as people if I can't decide what I can do with my body, and then what else is going to be restricted. There's always already been talking about birth control and gay rights and trans rights. This is one of those slippery slope situations." Hardaway says
There have been many protests and celebrations since the Supreme Court Decision more than a week ago.
The silent vigil wasn't the only rally against the court's ruling, several other organizations came together for a not-so-quiet protest.
"I had a choice to have a kid and not everybody got to have a choice if they have a kid or not. Not everybody is in circumstances where they can have a kid and I just don't think that's something that we should force on people. It feels more like a control of a woman rather than like giving everybody like, lives." a protestor says
"Abortions is health care of women have the right to choose. It's not an easy decision for anybody to make and I think that's a personal hard decision that women have that right to" says Caitlin Thomas, protestor
Doug Daughtery, founder of Hamilton Flourishing, says Roe v Wade was a violation of religion.
It's a violation of conscience and what this is going to do once this is righted is every person in the United States, the rule of law, the complete law, from the Constitution on down, will be applied to children from conception on." Daugherty says
Daughtery believes that those who oppose the overturn will soon realize that it's for the better.
"So this, the resolution of the conscience of the nation is going to take a while, but it will come. I think it'll come quicker than everybody thinks" Daughtery says
In response to pro-life advocates, Shannon had only a few words.
"Well, that's your opinion." Hardaway says
