Two men sentenced to 15 additional years in jail following Volusia County inmate attack
Two men have been sentenced to 15 more years in jail for attacking an inmate in Volusia County.
Judson Arne punched an inmate, Azary Arocha, and fellow inmate, Andrew Mitchell, stabbed the victim several times at Tomoka Correctional Institution in Daytona Beach.
According to court documents, Arne kicked Arocha and used the knife that Mitchell dropped during the attack to stab the victim again.
The State Attorney's Office says Arne admitted to being involved in the attack and striking Arocha.
Court documents show Arne said it was his duty as a fellow gang member.
He claimed to be unaware of Mitchell's plans to stab the victim.
Arocha was in the hospital for six days with several stab wounds following the attack.
According to the State Attorney's Office, both Mitchell and Arne are documented as members of white supremacy gangs.
Arne was found guilty of second-degree aggravated battery on Friday and sentenced to 15 more years in prison.
He'd already been in custody since January 2019 and was serving for a possession of methamphetamine offense.
Mitchell was sentenced to 15 additional years in prison with no parole for aggravated battery.
