The Santiam Canyon lake town was devastated by the 2020 wildfires.
The mayor tells KATU News that they took extra precautions this year to ensure safety.
Steps included the U.S. Forest Service working with firework technicians to determine where the fireworks could be set off over the lake, and the fire department was also on standby in the event of any challenges.
Mayor Jim Trett says they canceled the fireworks show due to high fire danger in years past, but with the current conditions, the community decided to move forward with the show.
