NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WFFT) — New Haven kicked off the Fourth of July weekend with fun and entertainment.

The city held its third annual Independence Day Summer Fest at Schnelker Park.

It was a two-day event beginning on Friday.

People gathered at the park and along the street Saturday for the parade, picnic, and live music.

One attendee, Joshua Shearer, says it’s nice to see people come together even in the midst of what’s been happening in the country.

“Having all these people coming out and being around each other," he said. "You know it seems like we all been living under a rock, but coming out and visiting each other, it’s great to see all these happy faces.”

Shearer says the Independence Day is a big deal and he encourages everyone to celebrate it.
