Matthews just a stroke back at Korn Ferry event

Brandon Matthews has left himself in prime position for his second career victory.

The former Pittston Area and Temple star is tied for fourth at The Ascendant on the Korn Ferry Tour, just one stroke off the lead.

Matthews shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday at the TPC Colorado in Berthoud, Colo. His stands at 11-under 205 through three rounds and trails a trio of golfers tied for first.

Zecheng Dou, of China, and Americans Ryan McCormick and Dawson Armstrong are tied for first at 12-under 204.

Matthews could have found himself in a four-way tie for first, but he bogeyed the par-4 17th on Saturday. It was one of just two bogeys in the round. He also bogeyed the par-4 11th hole.

He recorded birdies on the par-5 first hole, par-5 fifth and par-4 ninth on the front nine. On the back nine, he managed a string of three straight birdies on the par-5 13th, par-3 14th and par-5 15th.

Matthews scored his first Korn Ferry Tour victory early this year when he won the Astara Golf Championship. He also finished second in the Panama Championship.

He is currently third in the Korn Ferry player rankings and has earned $237,928 this season.
