FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a driver Saturday following a pursuit that spanned two northeast Indiana counties.

The New Haven Police Department (NHPD) and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department were at the scene. According to NHPD officials, just after 7 p.m. they assisted with a vehicle pursuit that had come into Allen County from DeKalb County.

New Haven officers went to the intersection of Maplecrest Road and Lake Avenue to try and stop traffic and attempt to deploy stop sticks to stop the suspect vehicle.

According to NHPD, officers were forced to fire shots “due to actions of the suspect vehicle when it entered the intersection.” The suspect continued on to a nearby neighborhood where he was taken into custody by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The suspect was not injured by the gunfire, however, he was taken to a local hospital to be cleared medically. Once the suspect is cleared, he will be interviewed by detectives and preliminary charges will be pending.

The intersection of Maplecrest and Lake was shut down for a time due to the police pursuit, but it has since re-opened.

The Indiana State Police was called in to run a parallel investigation as it is protocol for all officer-involved shootings. The involved officers will be placed on standard administrative leave, NHPD said.

At this time, it has not been reported why the suspect was fleeing from police. The incident remains under investigation by the NHPD, ISP, FWPD, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
