The biggest complaint that police typically receive on the Independence Day holiday are for loud or illegal fireworks.
Manitowoc Police Chief Nick Reimer tells Seehafer News they’ll have similar enforcement as in previous years.
However, Reimer stated, “I have instructed officers to make sure if they are able to cite someone to do that if they have enough evidence because it really has been an issue in the past and we want to get this under control to make sure people have a safe Independence Day.”
The chief has this advice for local residents if they’re calling in a fireworks complaint.
“The best thing for us is for you to have an exact address so if we get there a little bit late and they’re not happening, we can still make contact with a specific residence to let them know, hey, what’s going on with the fireworks,” he said. “We’ll confiscate fireworks and cite based on some follow-up. So again sometimes we can be as many as 25 to 30 calls behind and when we get there if the fireworks are not going off if we know the address we can still do some follow-up.”
Chief Reimer added that they’re fine with legal fireworks like fountains, sparklers, and snakes.
