Jeffersonville police find decomposing bodies during funeral home investigation
Jeffersonville police continued their investigation into Lankford Funeral Home into the mid-Saturday morning hours.
Police along with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies secured the facility yesterday, where they could be seen working in yellow hazmat suits.
They were alerted to a smell coming from the business.
Authorities discovered 31 bodies — some in advance states of decomposition. They also found the cremated remains of 16 individuals.
The remains have all been sent to the Clark County Health Department in order to confirm identities and notify loved ones. The office will be working with detectives to identify them.
WLKY has also been told that the owner of the funeral home has spoken to law enforcement but police would not say whether or not he is cooperating.
While the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information about potentially criminal conduct at the funeral home to call detectives at 812-285-6282.
Anyone who may have used the services of Lankford Funeral Home and has concerns is asked to call the county coroner's office.
