A juvenile suspect faces felony charges after a Friday night stabbing that sent a victim to Albany Medical Center.
At approximately 9:39 pm Friday, the Scotia Police Department responded along with several other agencies to what initially was a call for a large fight and then quickly changed to a report of a stabbing at the intersection of James Street and North Ballston Ave.
Officers arrived on scene at 9:41pm, and quickly apprehended one of the suspects involved in the assault hiding in a backyard of a residence in Scotia. The suspect was taken into custody and then taken back to the Scotia Police department for further investigation. The suspect, whose name is not being released due to his age, was later charged with assault in the 1st degree and gang assault in the 1st degree, both class B felonies.
The victim of the assault was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment for multiple stab wounds, where he was last reported to be in stable condition.
Police say this incident took place while the fireworks at Jumping Jacks were letting out, which they described as an extremely chaotic time for officers and the public. The Schenectady Police Department, Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, The Glenville Police Department, The New York State Police, The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, and The Schenectady County Auxiliary Police. were all involved.
