COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) – A postal worker killed on her daily shift, and a post office burned to the ground in Lee County. Those are just some of the attention getting crimes the U.S. Postal Service and law enforcement have teamed up on.
On Friday, both groups asking for support from the community as they continue to work on those cases. There have been several arrests in the killing of Irene Pressley in September of 2019 while the 64-year-old was delivering mail in Williamsburg County.
Also, there have been arrests in a fire that destroyed a post office in Bishopville last year.
“South Carolina is safe because of the work of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the office of inspector general,” said Dewayne Pearson of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“All work diligently toward our shared goal. That is to protect the people, our employees, our customers, to ensure the sanctity of the mail, and recover postal assets,” said Rando Strickland, who serves as the officer in charge for the Columbia Main Post Office.
The U.S. Postal Service has also worked together with the attorney’s general’s office to arrest 30 accused drug traffickers and gang members on federal charges back in March.
