Des Moines Police are investigating a crash between a motorcycle and a car that killed one person Friday. Police have identified the motorcycle driver who was killed as Kobi Ozimek, 24, of Des Moines.
The crash happened around 5:39 Friday night at the intersection of 2nd and Douglas Avenues. Ozimek had serious injuries and later died at the hospital.
Investigators say minutes before the crash, a Polk County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to pull over a motorcycle near the intersection of 2nd and Aurora Avenues, about four blocks from the collision site.
"The motorcyclist accelerated away from the deputy, and the traffic stop was abandoned. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist failed to yield to a red light at the intersection on 2nd Avenue and Douglas Avenue, and collided with a vehicle within the intersection," Des Moines Police say.
